School’s starting! Not a moment too soon in my household—my daughter loves her school and can’t wait to get back to her friends, her routine and yes, even the classroom for learning.
As classes begin, notice the mailings and ads for after-school tutors, academic counseling programs, all manner of assistance programs. Why do we do this for our kids…but not ourselves?
|
Don’t let yourself flunk out.
|
| Kids have to tackle all kinds of new ideas and concepts all the time. Some of them come easily, some come harder. And when a student is struggling, the teacher knows it relatively quickly…because there are frequent tests, quizzes, exams that signal a problem.
Are you measuring your own progress? Do you have any regular check-up to make sure you know if you (and your business) are doing okay?
When the teacher sends a note home or asks for a parent conference…you talk to your kid. You are an accountability partner in solving this problem. You face the issue. Maybe you roll up your sleeves yourself and try to explain algebra. Or maybe you hire a Spanish tutor. Or you enroll your child in a program to learn study skills. You don’t ignore things, you try to make things better right away to make sure the problems don’t get bigger and more insurmountable.
Even if you’ve identified a problem or outstanding issue in your business…are you accountable for fixing things? Do you work with a coach or your financial advisor to come up with a plan of action to resolve things?
And then…when your child’s report card shows progress, you stay on top of things. Until you are sure things are better, you keep going with the help, making sure your child’s confidence is built along with mastery of the new skills.
Okay, have I got your attention now? Why let yourself flunk out of business? Get some help!
