| At the International Coach Federation Conference in Orlando, I attended a great session on personal branding presented by William Arruda. My favorite line from the presentation: IF YOU DON’T APPEAR IN GOOGLE, DO YOU EXIST?
In this month’s newsletter, I share the link to William’s free tool so you can see if you are “digitally dominant!”

| If you don’t appear in Google…
Do You Exist?
|
———————————————————————————————–
Have you Googled yourself? (Or looked yourself up in Yahoo and Bing?) Seriously. Knowing what comes up when someone Googles you is very important if you are in business.
In the olden days, many service businesses got by with word of mouth referrals and maybe an ad in the Yellow Pages. No more. Even if you come highly recommended, a prospective client is most likely to look you up on the Internet to check you out for themselves before they pick the phone up to call.
(True story: a woman who claimed she was a marketing guru lost a gig recently when the client couldn’t find any info about her work online…)
If you don’t make sure that the search results they find out about you are the ones you want them to see, they may find out stuff about you that you DON’T really want made public. The article that mentions you in your son’s middle-school newsletter. Or a political contribution made by your spouse. Or your triathalon results. None of this is bad (necessarily) but it wouldn’t be the most important things you want a prospect to discover.
Not sure what to make of the findings? William has a free tool you can use to figure it out: Online ID Calculator.
I am DIGITALLY DISTINCT. How about you?

| Good Enough is the New Great |
| This past Sunday’s New York Times Magazine culled the best new ideas of 2009 for our consideration. My favorite was from Robert Capps of Wired Magazine. Good Enough is the New Great. Read the NYT blurb here.
Why do I like it so much? Because the website builder my company builds and sells is exactly that: GOOD ENOUGH. For most service businesses, our system allows you to get the job done without overspending or using un-necessary bells and whistles. And yes, we still offer a 30-day free trial, so check it out for yourself.

Good article blog. Thank you for your help! Informative.
Hi, how are you doing? I truly like ur blog! I wonder if u can help me (I am positive other subscribers might also be interested). I want to get into writing a blog as well and I currently use a blog with Word Press, but it is quite difficult for me to build and I would like to try to get several good training guides or courses (hopefully free) that can assist me in using wordpress correctly. As a word press webmaster yourself, do u perhaps know were i can find online tutorials to do this myself?? Thank you
It’s useful being able to find what my friends on? Twitter and Facebook are saying about a topic I am searching for without having to waste my time on either social site viewing off topic communication.I love social networking sites but I really don’t care why you went to the gym. Only getting what I want from my friends is going to make them more valuable to me and keep me from getting sidetracked when I am trying to get real work done.
