Everyone's got a dud or two...it's what you make of it!
Bold Business Works Monthly Newsletter
June 2015
This month I encourage you to flip expectations and turn potential negatives into positives. Not sure how to do that? Read on!
Everyone has failures. What can you make of them?
I am an optimist---I generally believe the best in people and that things will turn out the way I want them to. I know that doesn't always happen. But having a belief that you can turn things around (find that silver lining in the cloud) is absolutely vital to success.
A big article about Jerry Seinfeld in the New York Times reinforced this for me...he talked specifically about a failed show he did in 2010/2011 (The Marriage Ref)...and
said: "I took the burned wreckage of that show and rebuilt it as this show."
1. I began working with a client to work on increasing her marketability and sales. For many years she had been lucky enough to have new business find her without much effort. Recently word of mouth and sales are off. We began exploring the reasons. She immediately went to: "I think I am just too old and people don't want to hire me because of that." Nonsense!!! Age is an ASSET, not a liability. She needed to embrace her age, her experience and her wisdom. Own it with pride. This fantastic woman has so much to offer---but only if she embraces it rather than assuming people object to it.
2. I just got a new kayak and was hopeful that a friend with a house on our local lake would let me leave it in her yard so I could spare myself the constant schlepping to the boat launch.
Unfortunately she was not as amenable as I'd hoped. I was going to be stuck maneuvering the 9-foot kayak in and out of the car.
I decided to find my silver lining. Since my kayak isn't parked on the lake, I can go ANYWHERE with it. And so I've been exploring! So far I've checked out a couple of neighboring ponds and lakes (enlisting help from other boaters to get it in and out of the car when needed) and having a marvelous time. Maybe it was even better that I don't stow my kayak at just one specific lake!
