No doubt I am dating myself by admitting it, but I certainly remember this poster, even if I didn't own it!
It was a classic of the '70's
(thanks to 99 Designs for collecting a bunch of iconic posters, check 'em out.)The story goes that several of Spiro Agnew's supporters gave him a copy of this poster when he was about to be removed from office.

And how is this relevant? I have had to give myself this pep talk about "hangin' in there" over the past months as I waited for all of the various things and events that needed to take place to make my big move to New York. Luckily, I had supportive friends and family who helped me, too!
Every single detail became another annoying obstacle---from the leak in the sewer pipe in the house we were selling up to the sofa that wouldn't fit in the elevator in the city. When and where to move the cats? When and where to move the cars? Which cable and internet provider? Each mini-problem cascaded into
another (or so it seemed!) but now all of that is in my rear-view mirror!
It was so worth hanging in there. |
Seems appropriate to show you my cat Trixie admiring the sunset from our Riverside Drive windows.

Interestingly enough, I just finished reading an excellent book:
"Think Like a Freak" by Dubner & Levitt (the original authors of Freakonomics) and they have a whole chapter on "the wisdom of quitting!"
To be fair, their point is if something isn't going well, you should "fail fast" and smart and conserve resources for other projects and ideas that might do better. I like to think that this move was not a failing idea I needed to let go of!
