I was fascinated by the Thomas Edison documentary run recently on PBS.  He really was a fascinating person and true genius.  Miss it?  Info here. 

One of his other famous quotations is "I haven't failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that didn't work."

Was he really that pragmatic?  I know that when I try out a new idea and it fizzles, it can be rather disappointing.  It can be demoralizing and get you doubting yourself.  But Edison and his work team just went on to the next possible solution to the problem they were tackling.

Or maybe there is a kernel of success and learning within the fizzle...it can take some time and perspective to find that nugget of learning.  Maybe the whole idea didn't fail, just your timing, your technique, your team?  What can be tweaked to inform your next move?  Look hard at why things flopped and it may lead to the real success you are seeking.
