I had a coaching exploration call recently with a business contact who I've known for quite some time. She's been on my email list and has attended many of my webinars and classes over the past five plus years.
We caught up on what was going on in her business and how I might be able to help her. Before we ended the call, she paused for a moment to reflect on her positive impressions of the progress of my business, my offerings and my professional delivery. This unsolicited compliment was authentic (not just a throw-away, "wow you know your stuff," it was a thoughtful assessment of what she had observed, with details and examples. That one minute of conversation literally made my day. We are all so busy just getting through our to-do lists that we forget to acknowledge others.
One of my other coach/website clients was emailing me the other day and he added a PS: Deborah, I really appreciate you. What a nice PS!
I keep a file folder labelled "Atta Girl" and when I receive a thank you note from a client or colleague, I save it there, along with print-outs of email thanks from clients. A visit to the Atta Girl file folder can always pick up my spirits on a rainy day.
We all like to hear positive feedback, so consider this your friendly reminder to acknowledge people who do outstanding things for you. I promise, you'll make someone's day.
