This summer my family and I moved in to our new apartment in New York City...as well as a second home in Columbia County, New York. Lots of organizing, unpacking and general exhaustion.
The second day after the movers arrived upstate and I was faced with the daunting task of settling in, there was a friendly knock on the door in the late afternoon. It was two of our neighbors down the hill, also weekenders who we had met through mutual friends many weeks before. They had seen the moving van and guessed I would be up to my eyeballs in work. And they came bearing a box of brownies.
That visit and those brownies literally "made my day."
It was so nice to have someone think of me and bring a thoughtful little gift (tasty, too!)
My husband and I needed to drop off forgotten items to my daughter a week after she started college and I
included a homemade banana bread in the package of supplies. After a week of dorm food, this taste of home made a big impact and the kids were very grateful. (and of course the whole loaf was gone in just minutes) My daughter told me she and her dorm buddies were very appreciative.
Seems to me that we can show our thoughtfulness and concern for others with little gestures in lots of ways. I am a big fan of
SendOutCards, which lets you send inexpensive snail mail cards that are easily customized. Really, who sends mail anymore? It shows a level of engagement that can make a big difference.
How can you make an impact today?
